Web Desk(National Times)- Veteran Indian actor Vishwanath ‘Nana’ Patekar has passed away at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his Goa residence, as per Indian media reports.
The actor was reportedly found unconscious by a medical team dispatched to respond to complaints of chest pain. The team attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the actor after which he was rushed to the hospital, news agency ANI quoted Dr Shehkar Salkar, the head of oncology at Goa’s Manipal Hospital as saying.
The actor was declared dead early on Thursday morning. Dr Salkar said a medico-legal case had been registered and a post mortem would be conducted.
Patekar had an extensive repertoire of Hindi and Marathi cinema credits along with a handful of roles in Tamil and Kannada films. His 48-year career began with the 1978 film Gaman.
He went on to act in Mira Nair’s Academy Award-nominated film Salaam Bombay! and won three National Awards — Best Supporting Actor for Parinda and Agni Sakshi and Best Actor for Krantiveer. He was awarded the Padma Shri — India’s fourth-highest civilian honour — in 2013.
He gained widespread acclaim among younger fans with his performance as the gangster Uday Shetty in the 2007 crime comedy Welcome.
