Husband, servant detained after woman found dead with hands bound in Rawalpindi apartment

RAWALPINDI(National Times)- Police have detained the husband and domestic servant of a 45-year-old woman who was found dead with her hands tied behind her back at an apartment in Rawalpindi, while her elderly father-in-law is also being questioned as part of the investigation.

The woman, identified as Hina Javaid, was found dead in the washroom of her apartment in Askari Apartments, Lal Kurti, on Thursday evening. Police said the body bore signs of torture, with a wire fastened around her neck and tied to the shower rod.

According to the first information report (FIR), registered on Aug 20 at the Civil Lines police station under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code, Hina’s brother, Fahid Javaid, alleged that his sister had been murdered by her husband, Faisal Asghar Imam, his father, Asghar Ali Fiaz, and their domestic servant, Zeeshan Arshad.

Fahid told police that he received a telephone call from his sister’s father-in-law at around 6:53pm on Thursday, informing him of an emergency at the residence. He said he rushed to the apartment with other family members and arrived there at about 7:23pm.

He claimed that when he arrived at the residence, he found his sister’s body in the bathroom, with her hands bound behind her back, a cloth over her mouth and a wire around her neck connected to the shower.

The complainant further alleged that his sister had been subjected to “severe torture and mistreatment” by her husband. He also claimed that she might have been administered a poisonous substance before her death.

The police report, prepared after officers reached the apartment, also recorded that Hina’s hands were tied behind her back, a white cloth had been placed over her mouth and head, and an electrical wire was fastened around her neck and tied to the shower rod.

An initial postmortem examination indicated a strangulation mark around her neck, an injury below her right lip and bleeding, according to the police report.

A team from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) also visited the apartment and collected evidence from the scene. The body was subsequently shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for a postmortem examination.

A police spokesman said Hina’s husband, Faisal, and their domestic servant, a resident of Mandi Bahauddin, had been detained on murder charges. The father-in-law, a 78-year-old man, is being questioned by police.

Police have also recorded statements from the suspects as the investigation continues under the supervision of a team of senior officers.

In his complaint, Fahid said Hina had married Faisal in November 2025. He further alleged that Faisal had previously mistreated his first wife, who later obtained a divorce.

The allegations contained in the FIR are subject to investigation, while police are examining forensic evidence and other circumstances surrounding Hina’s death.
