Tribal elder shot dead in Dalbandin

QUETTA(National Times)- A tribal leader was shot dead in Dalbandin Bazaar, while a subsequent retaliatory attack left another man injured, police said on Monday.

According to officials, tribal elder Haji Abdul Bari Reki was critically wounded when unidentified assailants opened fire on him in the Dalbandin market.

He was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

In the aftermath of the incident, police said, relatives of the deceased allegedly opened fire and injured Mohammad Arif Reki.

He was provided initial medical treatment before being shifted to a hospital, they added.

Police officials said both parties belong to the same tribe and had been involved in a dispute. However, the exact motive for the shooting has yet to be officially confirmed.

Law enforcement agencies and the local administration have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing and the retaliatory attack.

No arrests had been reported till late Monday night. Officials said efforts were under way to establish the sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting.
