FAW Group’s Hongqi Unveils New Global SUV Series for International Markets

Changchun (Xinhua): FAW Group, one of China’s leading automobile manufacturers, has announced the launch of a new lineup of models under its premium brand Hongqi, aimed at expanding its presence in international markets.
The newly introduced range includes the Hongqi Global SUV and a right-hand drive version of the E-HS9, marking a significant step in the brand’s global expansion strategy.
According to FAW Group, the latest overseas-focused SUV series comprises the Hongqi Off-Road model, Hongqi Global SUV, right-hand drive E-HS9, and E-HS5. These models will be available in both left-hand and right-hand drive configurations, enabling the company to cater to diverse market requirements.
The expanded lineup is expected to strengthen Hongqi’s offerings across both fuel-powered and electric vehicle segments, while enhancing its competitiveness in regions with varying driving systems.
Established in 1958, Hongqi has long been associated with official state functions in China, with its sedans frequently serving as official vehicles at major national events. Over the years, the brand has evolved into one of the country’s most recognized high-end domestic automotive names.
Giles Taylor, Vice President of Global Design at Hongqi, stated that the new models retain the brand’s signature “Eastern luxury” design philosophy, while being tailored to meet the cultural preferences, consumer needs, and driving habits of different regions.
FAW Group further revealed that Hongqi plans to deepen its footprint in Southeast Asia this year. The company is preparing to open an experience store in Singapore and launch the E-HS9 there, alongside plans to introduce the same model in Thailand and begin construction of a manufacturing facility in Indonesia.
Over the next five years, Hongqi aims to expand its presence to more than 100 countries and regions worldwide, while establishing over 1,000 sales and service outlets. The company also intends to develop five regional hubs in collaboration with partners across research and development, manufacturing, components, finance, and services, covering Southeast Asia, Europe, Latin America, and other key markets.
