ISLAMABAD(National Times)- The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCCIA) presented a report to the National Assembly regarding offensive and pornographic content on TikTok and other social media platforms.

The report stated that measures are ongoing to curb objectionable content on social media, particularly TikTok.

According to the report, last year 545 cases of cyber harassment, 322 cases of hate speech, 187 cases of spreading misinformation, and 58 cases related to child abuse were registered.

The report highlighted that 360 women and 110 men were victims of cyber harassment, while 42 women and 273 men were affected by hate speech. Additionally, 21 women and 180 men were impacted by the spread of false information.

NCCCIA stated that over 600 URLs containing offensive material were blocked, 435 complaints were registered, of which 98 were inquired into and 42 cases filed. Seventy-three individuals were arrested for sharing obscene content, and three were sentenced by courts.

PTA added that over the past year, action was taken against 1.5 million illegal URLs, and 6.5 million domains containing pornographic material were blocked through the WMS system.

The report also noted that the WMS system has been activated to fully block HTTPS websites containing objectionable content.
