Pakistan urges restraint amid escalation in Middle East

NEW YORK(National Times)- Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, has condemned the attacks on Iran at a Security Council meeting. Addressing an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, Pakistani delegate Asim Iftikhar said that he was concerned about the current situation in the Middle East. He said that the attack on Iran was carried out while diplomatic efforts were underway, and appealed to the parties to show patience and restraint. Asim Iftikhar said that Pakistan also condemns the attacks on Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar, international laws should be respected at all costs, and condemns the death of a Pakistani citizen in the UAE. The Pakistani delegate further said that Pakistan condemns the attacks on Iran, the UN Charter should be respected, and we appreciate Oman’s mediation in the US-Iran talks. Addressing the Security Council meeting, he also condemned the killing of a Pakistani national in the UAE. Authorities have said the individual was killed by falling debris in connection with a missile strike. “Pakistan also condemns the unfortunate death of a Pakistani national in the UAE during this dastardly attack,” he said. “We urge all sides to refrain from any further actions that may undermine the security and territorial integrity of other regional countries,” he said. Trump says Iran’s supreme leader killed in strikes According to reports, Iran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles and drones, which triggered air raid sirens across Israel under operation “Fateh Khyber”. The attack reportedly targeted northern Israel, including the area of Hafizah, where explosions were heard. The capital, Tel Aviv, also experienced blasts, indicating the scale of the Iranian counter strikes. Iranian military officials confirmed the launch of numerous missiles and drones, which have struck key locations in Israel.
