Airlines hike Umrah fares as Ramazan begins

KARACHI(National times)- As Ramazan starts, domestic and international airlines have raised Umrah fares amid rising pilgrim demand. Aviation sources report that business class tickets have surged to PKR 500,000, while economy and economy-plus fares now range between PKR 180,000 and PKR 200,000. Normally, economy fares were around PKR 130,000-140,000, and business class tickets were PKR 425,000-450,000. Sources said the increase is due to a surge in Umrah pilgrims during the first ten days of Ramazan, with fares expected to climb further in the second and third decades. Airlines are taking advantage of the high demand to boost revenues.
