Lahore police bust major electricity theft, seize fake meters worth over Rs 55 million

LAHORE(National times)- Lahore police, in coordination with the assistant engineer of Gulshan Ravi and the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), conducted a major operation against electricity theft on a blocked road, uncovering illegal connections worth over Rs 55 million. According to a spokesperson from LESCO (Lahore Electric Supply Company), a factory producing shopping bags was illegally siphoning electricity by installing fake meters. The factory had also extended its unauthorized connections via underground cables to supply power to another facility. During the operation, LESCO teams confiscated the illegal meters and underground cables. They issued detection bills for over 120,000 units and ensured the arrest of the individuals involved in the scam. The operation highlights LESCO’s ongoing efforts to curb electricity theft and enforce legal compliance in industrial setups across Lahore. Authorities have emphasized that illegal power supply not only results in huge financial losses but also poses serious safety hazards, including potential fire risks due to faulty wiring. The police and LESCO have vowed to continue joint operations to dismantle such networks and hold perpetrators accountable.
