CM Maryam Nawaz launches Khelta Punjab Pink Games 2026

LAHORE(National times)- Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Khelta Punjab Pink Games 2026, with the participation of 3,400 women athletes from across the province. The opening ceremony was held at Punjab Stadium, Nishtar Park Sports Complex, where the chief minister received a warm welcome. Ministers, lawmakers, veteran players, and a large number of young girls attended the colorful event. Maryam Nawaz visited every pavilion in the stadium to personally encourage the women athletes, boosting their morale. Athletes from each division carried the Pink Games torch around the stadium before lighting it, marking the official start of the event. Olympian athlete Faiza Riaz led the march past, while the stadium echoed with drumbeats and enthusiastic slogans. Teams representing different divisions showcased a traditional march past, adding to the festive atmosphere. Speaking on the occasion, Sports Minister Faisal Khokhar said that under the chief minister’s direction, sports activities are being expanded to the tehsil level. He noted that female athletes are receiving monthly stipends and highlighted Punjab’s strong performance in national competitions, winning 126 medals in the National Games and 173 medals in the Quaid-e-Azam Games.He further announced that 184 sports projects would be completed within a year, including the construction of synthetic astro-turf hockey stadiums in every district to promote the game at the grassroots level. The Pink Games aim to provide women a level playing field and encourage them to step into the spotlight. Officials say the initiative is a step in the right direction to empower women through sports and nurture young talent across Punjab.
