RAWALPINDI(National times)- Former Pakistan Army chief General (r) Qamar Javed Bajwa has sustained injuries after a fall at his residence, it was learnt on Wednesday. The former top general has been shifted to a hospital, where his treatment is ongoing, according to initial reports. No further medical details were immediately available about the nature of his injuries or his condition.
Who is Gen (r) Bajwa?
Qamar Javed Bajwa is a retired four-star general who served as the 16th Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army from November 2016 to November 2022. He was replaced by General Syed Asim Munir, who is currently serving as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). Qamar Javed Bajwa was commissioned into the Pakistan Army in 1980 in the Baloch Regiment and rose through the ranks over a career spanning more than four decades. Before assuming command of the army, he held several key positions, including Corps Commander of X Corps in Rawalpindi, one of the military’s most strategically significant formations. He also served as Inspector General Training and Evaluation at General Headquarters, where he oversaw operational preparedness and institutional training standards across the force. His career included international exposure as well, with service in United Nations peacekeeping missions, including deployment in Congo. During his tenure as army chief, Bajwa received a three-year extension, allowing him to remain in office until November 2022. His extended term coincided with a period marked by security challenges, shifting regional dynamics, and significant domestic political developments. He played a visible role in matters relating to national security and counterterrorism operations, as well as in high-level engagements linked to regional diplomacy. His time in office also saw active involvement by the military leadership in discussions related to economic stability and strategic partnerships with foreign governments, including the United States and Gulf countries. Following his retirement in November 2022, Bajwa has largely remained out of the public spotlight.
