Lahore skies to bid farewell to Basant as three-day celebrations end today

LAHORE(National times)- The vibrant kite-flying fever in Punjab’s capital fades today as the three-day Basant celebrations draw to a close. The final day of the Basant festival is being celebrated in Lahore on Sunday with great enthusiasm, as the city remains vibrant with colourful kite-flying activities. Rooftops in the walled city are filled with people of all ages flying kites and competing in kite-cutting, while the sky is dotted with bright, multi-coloured . The second day of the festival also saw heavy crowds across the city, with the sound of “bo-kata” echoing late into the night. Residents from different cities, along with a large number of foreign visitors, participated in the celebrations alongside locals. Prominent political figures also joined the festivities. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif celebrated Basant in the Walled City, while Hamza Shehbaz marked the occasion in the Lohari Gate area. Punjab Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb was also seen flying kites. Political leader Fawad Chaudhry described Basant as a positive initiative by the government and took part in the celebrations. Women’s participation was notable during the festival, with many flying kites themselves, while others applied henna, wore colourful dresses, and prepared traditional dishes and sweets at home to mark the occasion.
