Wazirabad court hands four-year sentence to Imran Khan attack convict in illegal arms case

WAZIRABAD(National times)- A local court in Wazirabad has sentenced Muhammad Naveed—the convicted attacker in the Wazirabad shooting targeting PTI founder Imran Khan—to four years in prison in a separate case involving illegal possession of arms. According to the case record, Judicial Magistrate Fazal Ilahi convicted Naveed under the Punjab Arms (Amended) Ordinance, 2015. After reviewing the evidence presented in FIR No 742/2022, the court awarded four years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs40,000. The magistrate directed that the sentence would run concurrently with any other sentences Naveed is currently serving in separate criminal cases, effective from the date of his incarceration. As per the punishment warrants issued by the court, the superintendent of Central Jail Gujranwala has been authorized to take Muhammad Naveed into custody to begin implementation of the four-year sentence.

FIR registered against gun attack on Imran Khan in Wazirabad

Earlier, in April 2025, an anti-terrorism court had sentenced Muhammad Naveed to life imprisonment under Section 302(b) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The attack took place on November 3, 2022 when a gunman opened fire, injuring Imran Khan and other PTI leaders. Following the incident, the PTI founder had accused the then government of PDM alliance and some officials. However, police registered the FIR against Muhammad Naveed—who was arrested at the scene—and other unidentified suspects.
