Case registered against Karachi JI chief for taking out rally, holding public meeting

KARACHI(National times)- A case has been registered against Karachi Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Munam Zafar and others for taking out a protest rally and holding a public meeting in the city. The case was registered on the complaint of SHO Tipu Sultan Police Station, Azhar Khan. According to the contents of the FIR, police personnel were on area patrol when they observed workers of a political party protesting on the Shahrah-e-Faisal. The demonstrators included approximately 800 to 1,000 men and women. The FIR states that due to the rally, ambulances and other vehicles were stopped on Shahrah-e-Faisal. The rally was being led by Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Munam Zafar, accompanied by Manzar Alam, Rashid, and other individuals. It further states that the rally caused severe inconvenience to the public on the Shahrah-e-Faisal. The case was registered under charges related to blocking roads, stopping people, and other relevant sections. The spokesperson for Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi said that the FIR is political victimization, calling the registration of a case over a peaceful protest fascism. He added that the FIR is a failed attempt to suppress the public’s voice. He said that the struggle will not stop because of FIRs and added that the movement for Karachi’s rights will continue. He said that they are not afraid of such cases.
