Fifth Cricket Test match between England and was scheduled to be played at Old Trafford in Manchester on 10th of September 2021 was cancelled in wake of “increase in the number of Covid cases in the Camp” as quoted by the ECB. Due to this India were unable to field the team.
All the Indian players and officials showed there in ability to take part in the fifth game and as result ECB had to cancel fifth Test. Indian players were afraid and believed that if any of the player got infected then he would have to quarantine for 14 days and could miss first round of IPL which is due to start on September 19th,2021 in Dubai.
The influence of BCCI over ICC and Other fellow countries Cricket Boards that instead of forfeiting the match they simply cancelled it so that Indian Cricket Teams ranking could not affect that way.
Cricket fans were utterly disappointed by this move that they missed weekend games and last England team game of the season, moreover, sponsors, company having broadcasting rights and allied business tied up with this game had to bear a huge loss.
On top of that Tom Harrison ECB, CEO made it clear that “ the Test was abandoned last minute due to the wellbeing of the India side. This is not a COVID cancellation,” he said. “This match has been cancelled because of serious concerns over the mental health and wellbeing of one of the teams.”
