LAHORE(National times)- The Lahore High Court (LHC) has set aside the death sentence of an accused in a case involving the killing of a girl after she allegedly refused a marriage proposal. A bench comprising Justice Shehram Sarwar and Justice Sardar Ali Akbar Dogar issued a written verdict, declaring the death sentence null and void and acquitting the accused. According to the judgment, the prosecution claimed that the accused murdered the girl for refusing to marry him. In 2022, the trial court had awarded him the death penalty along with a fine. The Lahore High Court’s decision noted that the post-mortem of the victim was conducted with a delay of seven hours, and the prosecution completely failed to prove its case against the accused. Therefore, the death sentence was annulled and the accused was acquitted.
