Two Pakistanis trying to reach Europe die in Libya boat disaster

SHEIKHUPURA(National times)- Two men from Punjab’s Sheikhupura district have lost their lives in a tragic boat accident in Libya while attempting to reach Europe. Residents of the village of Kajjar, Kashif Jutt and Afzal Jutt had travelled to Saudi Arabia two months ago to perform Umrah. After completing their pilgrimage, they reportedly attempted to journey towards Europe using the Libya route through an illegal migrant trail, commonly referred to as ‘dunki’. Their journey took a devastating turn when the boat carrying them and others attempting to cross towards Europe met with a fatal accident in Libyan waters. Both men died in the incident. The bodies of the deceased were repatriated to their native village, where scenes of grief unfolded as relatives and locals gathered. Family members were overcome with sorrow as the coffins arrived. Kashif leaves behind two children, while Afzal is survived by three children. Authorities have highlighted the dangers of irregular migration routes, which have claimed numerous lives in recent years due to hazardous and overcrowded sea crossings.
