Urial population thrives in Salt Range after Wildlife Department’s conservation efforts

CHAKWAL(National times)- Due to the efforts of the Wildlife Department, the population of the rare Urial species has steadily increased, and the Urial found in the Salt Range can now be spotted easily in many areas. According to the Deputy Director Wildlife, the population of Urial has grown after strict action against illegal hunting. Large herds of Urial roaming freely on the mountains near the motorway have been captured on camera. He stated that in the Chakwal region, the video shows a significant number of Urial moving freely and fearlessly. Legal trophy hunting of this rare species generates millions of dollars in revenue. It is noteworthy that the Punjab Urial is the pride of the province and is found only in the Salt Range worldwide. In this region, the Urial exists in six types: Punjabi, Bukharan, Balochi, Afghan, Capsian, and Ladakhi. They are found from Iran to Kazakhstan and from Punjab to Ladakh, but the Punjabi Urial exists exclusively in Jhelum and Chakwal. The Punjabi Urial stands 70 to 90 centimeters tall, has horns up to about 38 inches long, a white belly, dark chest fur, and large eyes—making it undoubtedly a stunning masterpiece of nature.
