LHC reserves verdict on maintainability of Ejaz Chaudhry’s plea against disqualification

LAHORE(National times)- The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved its verdict on the maintainability of a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Ejaz Chaudhry challenging his disqualification following a conviction in the May 9 violence cases. Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad presided over the hearing, during which legal representatives for the federal government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) opposed the petition. They argued that Senator Chaudhry was sentenced to 10 years in prison by an anti-terrorism court in connection with the May 9 cases, after which the ECP issued a disqualification notification in accordance with the law. On the other hand, Chaudhry’s counsel contended that his client was not given a chance to be heard before being disqualified, and that no member of the Senate should be declared ineligible without due process. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its judgment on whether the petition is admissible for further hearing.
