UN releases emergency aid for Pakistan flood victims

NEW YORK(National times)- The United Nations has released $600,000 in emergency assistance from its relief fund to support those affected by the devastating monsoon rains and floods in Pakistan. UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told media that the funding has been issued to provide immediate help to displaced families in need of shelter, medical aid, and cash assistance. He stated that more than 400 people have lost their lives and over 190 have been injured in the past ten days due to heavy rains and flash floods. In addition, over 20,000 people have been displaced, with urgent humanitarian needs mounting. Since the onset of monsoon rains on June 26, widespread destruction has been reported across multiple regions of Pakistan, with the overall situation described as serious. Local authorities report that 798 people have died, including women and children, and over 1,000 have been injured due to floods and landslides. Thousands remain in need of emergency shelter and supplies. The UN has urged the international community to show solidarity with Pakistan during this crisis and to step forward in support of the affected population. UN agencies, in coordination with local authorities and partner organizations, are actively engaged in ongoing relief operations to deliver urgent aid to flood-hit people in Pakistan.
