Promotion of religious tolerance, mutual respect is our commitment: CM Maryam

LAHORE(National times)- Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday stated that promoting religious tolerance and mutual respect at every level is a firm commitment of her government. In her message on the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief, Punjab CM Maryam expressed solidarity with all those oppressed due to religious discrimination. She said, “Our sympathy lies with those who suffer injustice based on religious prejudice. Islamophobia is a bitter and harsh reality across the world.” She highlighted incidents such as attacks on mosques, restrictions on hijab-wearing women, and the unfair association of Muslims with terrorism, calling these trends a stain on humanity. Referring to Palestine, she said, “The land of Palestine is drenched in the blood of martyrs; the cries of innocent children are being drowned out by the roar of bullets.” She added, “The valleys of Kashmir are still soaked in the pain of centuries-old wounds. Both Kashmir and Gaza are questions on the conscience of humanity, to which the global community has yet to respond.” The CM emphasised that her government will always stand with every oppressed individual facing persecution on religious grounds. She concluded by saying, “Islam teaches love, peace, and tolerance. We will continue to stand by every victim, and promoting religious harmony and mutual respect remains our steadfast resolve.”
