Rain throws power system into disarray as many areas still in darkness in Karachi

KARACHI(National Times)- Several areas of Karachi remain without electricity since the rainfall on Tuesday. In the Saddar area, electricity has been suspended in Ratan Talao, Urdu Bazaar, and surrounding neighborhoods since Tuesday. Other affected areas still facing power outages include Malir Alamgir Society, Kashmir Colony Sector B, Jail Road, Jamshed Road, Al-Muslim Housing Society Scheme 38, Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 8, Johar Block 2, Block 3A, North Nazimabad Blocks G and F, Umar Colony, Darvesh Colony, PECHS Block 7, Merchant Navy Society Scheme 33 Sector 15A, and Liaquatabad C-1 Area. In Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 8, power has been out for two days, causing severe water shortages and distress among residents. Local residents report that electricity returned briefly at 5 AM but was cut off again shortly after. Despite multiple complaints, faults have yet to be repaired. Meanwhile, K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi has claimed that by 6 PM on Wednesday, power had been restored in more than 94% of the city. According to Alvi, restoration work is still ongoing at approximately 150 feeders, and K-Electric field staff faced serious mobility challenges due to the rain.
