PM Shehbaz directs NDMA to expedite rescue operation amid KP floods

ISLAMABAD(National times)- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to continue close coordination with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government amid flood and torrential rains. The prime minister convened an emergency meeting to assess the flood situation caused by heavy rains and cloudbursts across the country, particularly in the northern regions. During the meeting, NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik briefed the prime minister on the damage caused by cloudbursts and flash floods in KP. He also updated the premier on the ongoing rescue and relief operations. PM Shehbaz instructed the NDMA to continue close coordination with the KP government and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), ensuring full support in rescue and relief efforts. He directed that all available resources should be utilised to aid the affected regions. The prime minister emphasised the need for enhanced coordination with the KP government and ordered immediate dispatch of tents, medicines, food supplies, and other relief items to the flood-hit areas. He further directed that relief goods should be sent on a priority basis via trucks and that stranded residents and tourists be swiftly moved to safer locations. Earlier, the prime minister held telephonic conversations with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. He expressed sorrow over the loss of precious lives resulting from the recent cloudbursts and flash floods in the province.
