FIA removes Azam Swati’s name from ECL

PESHAWAR(National Times)- The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday approved Senator Azam Swati’s plea to have his name removed from the Exit Control List (ECL) and the Passport Control List (PCL), effectively disposing of the case. The petition was heard by a division bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Dr. Khurshid Iqbal. During the hearing, Azam Swati’s counsel, Advocate Ali Azim Afridi, informed the court that his client was scheduled to travel abroad at 9:00 AM on August 13, but was unable to do so due to his name being listed on ECL/PCL. He added that despite a prior court order for the removal of Swati’s name, authorities at the airport did not allow him to travel. In response, the assistant attorney general told the court that Azam Swati’s name is no longer on any travel restriction list, and confirmed that he is now free to travel. A representative of the FIA also assured the court that the petitioner can proceed with his foreign travel. After hearing both sides, the court disposed of the petition, confirming that Azam Swati is no longer barred from traveling abroad.
