Riffat Mukhtar appointed as FIA DG, Waqar Syed as NCCIA chief

Pakistan(National Times)- ISLAMABAD: The federal government has appointed Riffat Mukhtar, who previously served as the National Highway & Motorway Police (NH&MP) inspector general, as the new director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), The News reported. Mukhtar, a Grade-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), brings an extensive experience to the critical role within the FIA. He has earlier served as the Sindh inspector general of police as well. In a related development, Waqar-ud-Din Syed has been appointed as the director general of the newly-established National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), operating under the Interior Division. Syed is a Grade-20 PSP officer and former director of the FIA Cybercrime Circle. His appointment comes on the heels of his recent conferral of the Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the president of Pakistan, recognising his exemplary service and outstanding performance in combating cybercrime during his tenure at the FIA. He is the first director general of the Cyber Crime Investigation Agency. Their appointments have been announced through a notification. The Establishment Division has confirmed both the appointments, highlighting the government’s focus on strengthening law enforcement and cybersecurity.
