FIA nabs suspect for sharing sensitive govt data on social media

Pakistan(National Times)- ISLAMABAD: An individual accused of conducting an anti-state campaign and leaking sensitive government data on social media has been arrested by the Cybercrime Circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), The News reported. During a targeted raid in Lake View Society, Bani Gala, Islamabad, the suspect, identified as Nawaz was apprehended. According to FIA officials, Nawaz had illegally accessed the passport and immigration database, obtaining personal details of citizens and high-ranking government officials. He is accused of sharing confidential information, including passport details and photographs of senior officials, on the social media platforms. Authorities revealed that Nawaz used his X (formerly Twitter) account to disseminate sensitive data, allegedly intending to spread panic among the public. The suspect’s actions raised concerns about national security and data privacy, prompting swift action from law enforcement agencies. A case has been registered against him. Under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, those found guilty of cyber-related crimes can face severe penalties, including imprisonment and hefty fines. The FIA has seized the suspect’s social media accounts and digital evidence, initiating a detailed forensic investigation to trace potential accomplices and the full extent of the breach.
