IHC declares badminton federation elections illegal

ISLAMABAD(National Times)- The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has declared the Pakistan Badminton Federation’s (PBF) elections held on Oct 24, 2025, illegal and directed the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to conduct fresh elections within 90 days.

Justice Azam Khan announced the verdict on a petition filed by Imtiaz Gul and others, directing the PSB to constitute an election commission and hold fresh elections in accordance with Rule 17 of the PBF Constitution.

The court ordered that the entire electoral process, from the announcement of the election schedule to the declaration of results, must be completed within 90 days.

The IHC also directed the formation of an ad hoc committee, headed by the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination, to oversee the federation’s affairs until the completion of the election process. The director of National Sports Federations at the Pakistan Sports Board will serve as a member of the committee.

Furthermore, the court directed that one former badminton champion each from Punjab, KP, Sindh and Balochistan be included in the committee. The ad hoc committee will be responsible for managing the day-to-day affairs of the federation until the newly elected body of the Pakistan Badminton Federation formally assumes charge.
