KARACHI(National Times)- Law enforcement agencies claimed to have killed a “wanted terrorist” in an alleged encounter in Shershah, officials said on Sunday.

According to a Sindh Rangers spokesperson, acting on a tip-off, the paramilitary force and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) jointly carried out an operation in Gulbai and killed Zia Rehman alias Qari Saifullah, who was affiliated with the outlawed Fitnatul Khawarij.

The official added that arms and explosives were recovered from his custody.

“After the army launched an operation in 2012, he fled to Afghanistan, where he received further training in Bandhar Dara in Nangarhar. Subsequently, he remained involved in several terrorist attacks against Pakistani posts near the Afghan border,” the spokesperson said.

A Rangers statement said the killed terrorist had recently returned from Afghanistan to Karachi, adding that he was organising his network to carry out terrorist attacks against sensitive installations in the metropolis.
