Woman drowns in Soan River while ‘making TikTok video’

RAWALPINDI(National Times)- A woman, who police said was reportedly making a TikTok video while standing on the wall of Soan Bridge, drowned in the river within the limits of Morgah Police Station on Wednesday.

The woman, identified as Ms K, 28, was associated with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as an assistant. Police said she accidentally fell into the river while standing on the parapet wall.

“There is a report (sunwai) that she was making a video while standing on a low concrete wall placed on the side of the bridge when she fell into the water,” a police investigating officer told Dawn, quoting eyewitnesses.

However, IO said the woman had accidentally fallen into the river. The deceased was a resident of Gulistan Colony, Rawalpindi. She had parked her motorbike alongside the bridge wall before standing on the low-height wall of the bridge.

Shortly after the incident, Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot and launched a search operation for the drowning woman. After more than an hour of efforts, the woman’s body was recovered from the water and shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

Meanwhile, the search and rescue operation for five-year-old Harem Ali, who was suspected to have been swept away in an open drain near Committee Chowk Landa Bazaar on Thursday, was suspended after five days of efforts.

A spokesman for the emergency services said the search operation for Hareem Ali was stopped as she could not be traced despite hectic efforts. The missing girl’s family had announced a reward of Rs500,000 for anyone who could provide a clue leading to the girl and inform the grieving family, which had been anxiously waiting for their loved one since she went missing.

The girl’s father was putting the children in the car to depart for their home in the early hours of Thursday when five-year-old Hareem Ali vanished from the scene.

“The girl was standing near my car when I turned towards the car door to unlock it, I found my daughter missing,” the girl’s father had said in a statement.
