LAHORE(National Times)- A sessions court on Friday rejected a request of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to conduct a jail trial of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) social media activist Falak Javed in a case of alleged anti-state posts.

Additional District & Sessions Judge Nusrat Ali Siddiqui Malik announced the order after hearing the NCCIA’s request.

Declining the agency’s request to shift the trial to jail, the judge ordered that the case would continue on the next date of hearing.

However, the judge noted that the agency could approach the Punjab home department for the request for a jail trial. He adjourned the proceedings in the main case till Sept 10.

The NCCIA has already submitted the challan (charge sheet) of the case registered over alleged anti-state tweets on social media shared by the PTI activist, which were also aimed at “inciting hate” against the heads of state institutions.

The FIR was lodged under various sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) 2016 and the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
