ISLAMABAD (National Times) The Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), under the auspices of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), held its 12th Convocation at the Inam-ur-Rehman Auditorium, where degrees were conferred upon 270 graduates from various disciplines of engineering and applied sciences.
Chairman Board of Governors (BoG) PIEAS University and Chairman Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, attended the ceremony as the chief guest and awarded degrees to graduates in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Metallurgy Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, and Computer and Information Sciences. The convocation was attended by Scientist Emeritus Dr. Inam-ur-Rehman (SI), Members of the Commission, Director Generals, Directors, distinguished faculty members, graduates, and their families.
Addressing the convocation, Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar expressed his pleasure that female graduates constituted a significant proportion of this year’s graduating class, describing it as a reflection of the growing role of Pakistani women in science, engineering, and emerging technologies. He said their achievements demonstrate that the nation’s daughters are making remarkable contributions to scientific advancement and playing an increasingly important role in Pakistan’s national development.
Congratulating the graduates on their academic achievements, the Chairman encouraged them to embrace opportunities in research, innovation, and emerging technologies. “Today, our young engineers and scientists have access to opportunities and platforms that previous generations could only dream of. I urge you to seize these opportunities and contribute towards building a knowledge-based, innovative and self-reliant Pakistan,” he said.
Emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurship, Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar urged graduates not to limit their ambitions to seeking employment alone but to become job creators through innovation and enterprise. He also reaffirmed PAEC’s commitment to strengthening higher education, advanced research, and human resource development through institutions such as PIEAS.
Highlighting the responsibility of young professionals, he said, “The future of Pakistan depends on the knowledge, character, and commitment of its young professionals. Wherever life takes you, serve your country with honesty, uphold its dignity, and become true ambassadors of Pakistan through your conduct.” He stressed that graduates should uphold excellence, integrity, and professionalism throughout their careers.
Earlier, Rector PIEAS, Dr. Anila Usman, welcomed the guests, congratulated the graduating students, and thanked the Chairman BoG and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission for their continued support. She highlighted the strong employability and industry readiness of PIEAS graduates and noted that, in the recently released QS World University Rankings 2027, PIEAS ranked third among Pakistani universities while improving its global ranking to 560th.
She said PIEAS remains committed to producing future scientists and engineers through quality education, impactful research, innovation, and strong collaboration with industry, enabling graduates to contribute effectively to Pakistan’s scientific and technological advancement.
The ceremony concluded in a celebratory atmosphere as graduates marked the milestone with commemorative photographs alongside their families and faculty members. Recognized among Pakistan’s leading institutions of higher education, PIEAS continues to advance excellence in engineering, applied sciences, and technology through quality education, cutting-edge research, innovation, and strong academia-industry collaboration, with the continued support of PAEC.
