Photojournalist dies in KP’s Haripur road accident

HARIPUR(National Times)- Senior photojournalist and member of Haripur Union of Journalists and Haripur Press Club Muhammad Nawaz Hashmi died here in a road accident, police and family sources said on Thursday. He was 82.

Police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that Muhammad Nawaz Hashmi was on the way his home in Muhallah Railway Station after covering the 8th Muharram’s mourning procession in his native town Sera-i-Saleh on Wednesday afternoon when a recklessly driven Suzuki pick up ran over, while the driver sped away.

Area people removed the injured journalist to Trauma Centre Haripur where doctors referred him to Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad, in critical condition as according to doctors there was no arrangement for treating head injury patient in the centre.

The injured journalist succumbed to the head injury on Thursday afternoon. He was laid to rest in the ancestral graveyard. Journalists, lawyers, former local government councillors and teachers were in attendance on this occasion.
