PULGAON, MAHARASHTRA (National Times) An Indian Army Major posted at the Central Ammunition Depot (CAD) in Pulgaon, Maharashtra — regarded as Asia’s largest ammunition depot — allegedly shot and killed a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) during a routine firing practice session on Friday morning.
According to preliminary reports, Major Manan Tiwari opened fire with a 5.56mm INSAS assault rifle at close range, fatally wounding Subedar Major Om Bahadur Khand during the exercise.
Sources said the incident occurred inside the high-security military installation, triggering an immediate response from Army authorities. The injured officer reportedly succumbed to his wounds on the spot.
The matter is currently under joint investigation by the Indian Army and local police authorities. The accused officer has been taken into military custody, while officials indicated that the case is expected to be formally handed over to police for further legal proceedings.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the motive behind the shooting. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
