Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Elections Announced for June 7, 2026

Gilgit (National Times) The Election Commission Gilgit-Baltistan has officially announced the schedule for the upcoming general elections, stating that polling for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
According to a notification issued by the commission, the decision has been made under Section 57(1) of the Elections Act 2017, exercising the powers vested in the authority. Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz Khan formally approved the polling date.
The statement further noted that the date has been set in accordance with Article 48(1)(a) of the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan Order 2018, which empowers authorities to fix the schedule for general elections.
A copy of the notification has been sent to the Pakistan Press Printing Corporation in Islamabad for publication in the official Gazette. Relevant federal and regional institutions, as well as courts, have also been informed.
Following the announcement, political activity in the region is expected to intensify, with candidates and parties likely to begin preparations for their election campaigns.
