Islamabad (National Times) The federal government has announced a targeted relief package for motorcyclists alongside a significant increase in fuel prices, offering subsidized petrol of up to 20 litres per month.
Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, while addressing a press conference, stated that motorcycle users will receive a subsidy of Rs. 100 per litre on petrol to ease the burden of rising fuel costs on the general public. He added that the initiative will be implemented for a limited period initially.
The government has also extended relief to intercity transport and freight vehicles by providing a Rs. 100 per litre subsidy on diesel, aiming to reduce the impact on transportation costs and essential goods supply.
Meanwhile, the government has increased petrol and diesel prices effective April 3. Petrol is now priced at Rs. 458 per litre, while diesel has reached Rs. 520 per litre — the highest levels in the country’s history.
Officials stated that the decision was driven by unprecedented increases in global oil prices, while emphasizing that targeted subsidies are being introduced to support vulnerable segments of society.
