CHAGAI(National Times)- Following a similar move by Gwadar, the Chagai district administration has officially suspended transit facility for travel to Iran as valid visa declared mandatory, effective April 1, 2026.

According to a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Chagai, the “Rahdari” system, which allowed residents of border areas to travel between Pakistan and Iran without a passport or visa, has been suspended until further notice. The notification clarified that no new passes will be issued for Iran-bound travel.

Under the Rahdari system, which was primarily intended for residents of Pakistan-Iran border areas, individuals could obtain a 15-day permit to visit relatives across the border. With the suspension in effect, travel to Iran will now require a valid passport and visa.

Last month, the Gwadar district administration also issued a notification suspending the Rahdari system for its jurisdiction.

According to the Assistant Commissioner’s office in Gwadar, the system has been halted indefinitely, and no new passes for Iran travel will be granted.

The Rahdari system had long served as a vital and convenient travel facility for local communities, facilitating cross-border family visits and trade for residents of the border regions. Authorities have referred to instructions from the Interior Ministry in implementing the suspension.
