Tehran (National Times) The death toll from the escalating conflict in the Middle East has surpassed 2,000 people nearly two weeks after the United States and Israel launched military strikes against Iran on February 28. The violence has quickly spread across the region, drawing in countries hosting U.S. military bases as well as neighboring states such as Lebanon.
Figures compiled by Reuters from official sources across the region indicate significant casualties in multiple countries as hostilities intensify.
Iran
Iran has reported the highest number of casualties. State media said on Monday that at least 1,270 people had been killed. However, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations stated on March 6 that 1,332 people had died since the conflict began. Iranian authorities have not yet clarified the discrepancy between the two figures.
Lebanon
Israeli strikes in Lebanon have killed at least 687 people, according to Lebanese authorities. The World Health Organization said 98 of the victims were children, underscoring the humanitarian toll of the conflict.
Iraq
Iraqi health authorities reported at least 30 fatalities as fighting and military operations spill into the country.
Israel
In Israel, 12 people have been killed. Nine died in an Iranian missile strike on the city of Beit Shemesh, near Jerusalem, on March 1, according to Israel’s ambulance service. The Israeli military also confirmed that two soldiers were killed during operations in southern Lebanon.
United States
The United States has confirmed 13 service members killed. Six were declared dead on Friday after a U.S. military aircraft crashed over Iraq, while seven others were killed during operations against Iranian forces.
Gulf States
Several Gulf countries hosting U.S. military bases have also reported casualties.
United Arab Emirates: Six people killed in Iranian attacks, according to the defence ministry.
Kuwait: Six deaths, including two civilians killed in Iranian attacks, two interior ministry officers and two soldiers.
Syria
In Syria, four people were killed when an Iranian missile struck a building in the southern city of Sweida on February 28, the state news agency SANA reported.
Oman
Two people died in a drone strike on an industrial zone in Sohar province, marking the first fatalities inside Oman since the conflict began. Earlier, another person was killed when a projectile struck a tanker off the coast of Muscat.
Saudi Arabia
Authorities said two people were killed when a projectile hit a residential area in Al-Kharj, southeast of the capital Riyadh.
Bahrain
Two people were killed in separate Iranian attacks in Bahrain, including the most recent strike on a residential building in the capital Manama, according to the interior ministry.
France
France confirmed that one soldier was killed and six others wounded in a drone attack in northern Iraq, where French forces were providing counterterrorism training.
