ISLAMABAD(National Times)- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held telephone conversations with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to discuss the escalating tensions in the Middle East following Israeli attacks on Iran and other Gulf states. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (Pakistan), the Pakistani premier expressed deep concern over the situation during his calls on Thursday. He strongly condemned Israel’s attacks on Iran and subsequent strikes targeting friendly Gulf countries. Sharif emphasized the need to uphold the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states as outlined in the United Nations Charter and international law. He urged all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint, end hostilities, and resolve disputes through diplomacy and dialogue. During his conversation with Anwar Ibrahim, both leaders agreed that restoring peace and normalcy in the region was essential and could only be achieved if all sides showed restraint. They also agreed to work together and coordinate their positions on the issue. The prime minister also briefed the Malaysian leader on recent developments related to Afghanistan and Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and ensure security within the country and across the region. Later, Sharif spoke with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, with both leaders expressing deep concern over the worsening crisis in the Middle East. The Pakistani prime minister reiterated condemnation of the Israeli attacks on Iran and the subsequent assaults on Gulf countries. He also informed the Indonesian president about Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach to Gulf states in response to the crisis. Both leaders agreed to work together in urging all parties to show restraint and resolve disputes through constructive dialogue and diplomacy. Sharif further briefed President Prabowo Subianto on the latest developments in Afghanistan. The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact in the coming days.
