KARACHI(National Times)- Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced a major protest movement after Eid while addressing party workers in Karachi. He said that Orangi Town had given Jamaat-e-Islami a historic mandate in the local government elections, adding that a case regarding the alleged occupation of six union councils is currently pending before the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He claimed that had Jamaat-e-Islami secured the Town Chairman position in Orangi, development work would have been carried out there as in other union councils. He alleged that those rejected by the people had been imposed on Karachi. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman strongly criticised the Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement, accusing them of pushing Karachi towards decline. He questioned their political alliances and role in previous governments, including during the tenure of Imran Khan. He alleged that despite Karachi generating 42 percent of taxes and 54 percent of national revenue, the provincial government was unwilling to devolve powers to the city. He reiterated the demand for an empowered local government system, not only for Karachi but for all cities of Sindh. The Jamaat-e-Islami chief also addressed regional tensions, stating that war would benefit neither Pakistan nor Afghanistan. He urged peaceful dialogue and warned against allowing any country’s territory to be used for terrorism. He called on both governments to avoid conflict and resolve disputes through diplomatic means. Announcing a large-scale movement after Eid, he said the party would mobilize citizens for their rights and for the empowerment of local governance.
