Four policemen martyred in gun attack on patrol in Bajaur

BAJAUR(National times)- Four policemen were martyred after unidentified armed men opened fire on a police patrol in the Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials confirmed on Wednesday. According to police, the incident occurred in the Nawagai Kalay area of Khar tehsil when gunmen targeted the Ababeel Squad during routine patrol duty in Ramadan. Four officers died at the scene, while two others sustained serious injuries. Authorities said the injured personnel and the bodies of the fallen officers were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Khar, where the wounded are receiving medical treatment. Police officials stated that the Ababeel Squad had been conducting security patrols in view of heightened vigilance during the holy month when they came under sudden attack. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the shooting. A search operation has been launched in the surrounding areas to trace and apprehend those responsible. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the assault. Security forces have increased patrols in Bajaur following the incident, while investigations are under way to determine the circumstances and motive behind the attack. The attack underscores ongoing security challenges in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where law enforcement personnel have frequently been targeted in recent months.
