ISLAMABAD(National times)- Following the recent increase in petroleum product prices, the cost per unit of electricity in Pakistan is also expected to rise. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed a request with NEPRA for a monthly fuel adjustment for January. NEPRA is scheduled to hold a hearing on February 26 to review the proposed increase. According to CPPA’s submission, a total of 914 million units of electricity were generated in February, while 876.2 million units were supplied to electricity companies.

Nepra imposes fixed charges on domestic consumers using up to 300 units

The cost per unit of electricity in January stood at Rs 12.17, whereas the reference cost for the current month was set at Rs 10.39 per unit. CPPA has requested an increase of Rs 1.78 per unit for the upcoming month, citing the rising fuel costs as the primary reason for the adjustment. NEPRA will evaluate the proposal and decide whether to approve the adjustment in electricity tariffs.
