DHAKA(National times)- According to Bangladeshi media, the swearing-in ceremony of the new government will invite heads of governments from South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member states, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Dhaka Tribune reported that Tarique Rahman will take oath as prime minister on February 17, with the ceremony being organised by the caretaker government. Following a clear majority in the 13th national parliamentary elections, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has formally initiated the process of forming a new government. The party, winning more than two-thirds of the seats, is set to establish the government. Preparations are underway to invite heads of governments from SAARC member states as well as Middle Eastern countries to attend the ceremony. Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, BNP Joint Secretary General Humayun Kabir said he was not referring to any specific country, but the party is preparing to invite leaders from SAARC member states and Middle Eastern countries to the swearing-in ceremony. According to party sources, BNP aims to signal its diplomatic priorities and strengthen regional cooperation by ensuring the participation of foreign dignitaries at the event. The new government is expected to pay special attention to relations with South Asia and the Middle East in its foreign policy. Following the BNP’s victory, in his first media conversation, the anticipated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that after two decades, with his party’s return to power, his top priorities would be economic recovery, the establishment of law and order, and good governance.
