PM Shehbaz launches Rs38 billion Ramazan relief package

ISLAMABAD(National times)- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched a Rs38 billion Ramazan relief package, announcing that each eligible family will receive Rs 13,000 during the holy month. Addressing the ceremony, the premier said that as Ramazan approaches, Muslims traditionally share their resources with the underprivileged, and the government is committed to ensuring transparent and efficient assistance. He noted that the previous utility store-based distribution system had been discontinued due to complaints about poor quality goods and a cumbersome purchasing process. The prime minister said that last year, the government introduced a digital system to transfer cash directly to beneficiaries, overcoming multiple operational challenges. A dedicated complaint cell was also established to address public grievances.

He added that Rs 20 billion was distributed transparently among deserving families last Ramazan, while this year Rs 38 billion has been allocated. The funds will be distributed across all four provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. Payments will be made through bank accounts and digital wallets to 12.1 million eligible families, with each family receiving Rs 13,000 without discrimination. The prime minister said he would personally review the implementation process to ensure effective execution.
