PM Shehbaz meets IMF chief and Palestinian counterpart at Davos

DAVOS(National Times)- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday held separate meetings with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. The discussions focused on economic reforms, global challenges facing emerging economies, and Pakistan’s principled support for the Palestinian cause. During the meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, the IMF chief acknowledged and commended Pakistan’s ongoing reform efforts. She stressed the importance of sustaining the pace of reforms to ensure long-term economic resilience and stability, noting the need for continued commitment as the global economic environment remains uncertain. The meeting also included an exchange of views on the global economic outlook and the challenges confronting emerging economies. Both sides discussed the significance of multilateral cooperation in safeguarding economic stability, particularly in the face of external shocks and evolving financial conditions. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar attended the meeting alongside Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema. Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar were also present. In a separate engagement, Palestinian premier Mohammad Mustafa met PM Shehbaz Sharif during the forum. The Palestinian leader personally approached the Pakistani prime minister to introduce himself, reflecting the cordial nature of the interaction. PM Mohammad Mustafa expressed heartfelt gratitude to PM Shehbaz for Pakistan’s consistent, principled, and unwavering support for the Palestinian people. He thanked Pakistan for backing the Palestinian position at international forums and acknowledged Islamabad’s continued role in supporting the Palestinian cause.
