US fighter jets begin deployment to Greenland

WASHINGTON(National Times)- US fighter jets have started arriving in Greenland, and the Greenlandic government was informed in advance about the deployment. In a statement shared on social media, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), a joint US-Canadian defense organization, said that US Air Force fighter jets will soon reach the American military base in Greenland. According to NORAD, the deployment is being carried out in full coordination with the Danish government, and all necessary diplomatic clearances have been obtained. The move is part of broader defense planning and aims to strengthen aerial surveillance and regional defense capabilities. It is worth noting that Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark. In 1951, the United States and Denmark signed a defense agreement under which the US pledged to protect Greenland in case of any external aggression. Later, in 1958, the United States and Canada signed the NORAD agreement during the Cold War. Its primary objective is to ensure early detection and warning of aerial threats and ballistic missile launches targeting North America.
