Pakistan(National Times)- KARACHI: At least six people, including two women and one infant, died in various road mishaps on Wednesday in Karachi, The News reported. A dumper collided with four vehicles and two bikes, leaving a female government teacher, her husband and another person dead in Gulistan-e-Johar, near the Millennium Mall on Rashid Minhas Road. Whereas, one individual got critically wounded in the accident that apparently took place due to heavy vehicle’s speeding. The deceased were identified as Farooq, Kamran and Maryam Zahra. While, the injured person was identified as 18-year-old Ziaur Rehman, son of Farooq. Police said Kamran was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in a serious condition, where he succumbed to his injuries. His wife Zahra also died in the accident. The law enforcers suspected that the accident occurred because of the truck’s brake failure. SHO Faisal Gul said that the truck driver fled away after the incident, and search operation was launched to arrest him. The dumper truck had been confiscated, he added. The other man killed in the accident, Farooq, was a resident of Karsaz. He is said to be an employee of the Pakistan Navy. The accident led to a severe traffic jam from Millennium Mall to Johar Mor and Johar Morr to Johar Chowrangi. In a separate incident, a woman and her minor kid expired, while her spouse and another kid sustained injuries after a passenger bus rammed into their motorbike in Khokhrapar area. The deceased were identified as Bisma, 35, wife of Imran, and her 18-month-old son Abul Rahim. The injured included Muhammad Imran, 40, and Arman, 8. The footage of the accident showed normal traffic movement, with people walking on the street when a high-speed passenger bus suddenly appeared from a narrow lane. A motorcyclist barely escaped the accident, but due to high speed, the bus lost control, entered another lane and crushed the family. Eyewitnesses captured the driver and handed him over to the police. The uncle of the deceased infant spoke to the media, stating that his nephew and sister-in-law were on their way to visit their home when the speeding bus hit them. He demanded strict punishment for the responsible driver and justice for the victims’ family. The accident led to major traffic congestion in the area. Meanwhile, a road mishap in Gulshan-e-Maymar, claimed life of one man and left three children wounded. The traffic accident occurred near Ayub Shah Mazar within the limits of the SITE Super Highway Industrial Area police station. The deceased was identified as Ismail, 20, son of Abdul Rahim. The injured children were identified as Dua, 4, daughter of Shafiq, Rehan, 5, and Anas, 6. The injured were transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment. However, the victim’s family refused to pursue any legal action. All these incidents resulted in severe temporary traffic congestion at various spots, with vehicles queuing up. In another incident, a speeding car overturned because of reckless driving at Baldia Lucky Toll Plaza, causing injuries to three people, including a man and his daughter. The high-speed car lost control, hit a sidewalk and turned turtle near the Northern Bypass. The injured were identified as Manzoor Bakhsh, 40, Mehak, 17, daughter of Manzoor Bakhsh, and Shah Nawaz, 41, son of Iqbal. They were shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment. In a statement on deadly traffic accidents, Sindh Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla on Thursday directed to seize all illegal and unregistered dumpers in Karachi, immediately. “Illegal and unregistered dumpers on the roads are causing loss of human lives. An immediate action plan will be prepared against them in coordination with the traffic police,” Chawla said.
