Balochistan shifts more than 27,000 agricultural tubewells to solar system in 2025

QUETTA(National times)- The Balochistan government has taken significant steps this year to promote agriculture, education, and youth employment, converting over 27,000 agricultural tube wells to solar systems. This project, with a total cost of nearly Rs 55 billion, was funded 70% by the federal government and 30% by the provincial government, marking a major push for sustainable farming in the province. In a first-of-its-kind move, the provincial government also introduced the Balochistan Youth Policy, aimed at providing overseas employment opportunities to 30,000 young people. So far, over 6,000 skilled youth have found jobs in various countries, giving a new lease of life to the province’s talent pool. Education received a boost as well. Under the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund, meritorious students were awarded scholarships for matric, intermediate, graduation, masters, and PhD programs, with the provincial budget allocating around Rs 4 billion. Additionally, the Benazir Bhutto Scholarship Program opened doors for over 200 students to study in foreign universities. To improve public services, the government launched the Green Bus project for general commuters and Pink Buses for women, while in healthcare, a state-of-the-art Trauma Centre on Spini Road is in its final stages, featuring 150 beds, 8 operation theaters, and 4 ICUs.Infrastructure improvements are also underway under the Quetta Development Plan, including road widening, underpasses, and flyovers, making travel smoother for residents. As 2025 draws to a close, citizens hope that the government keeps its nose to the grindstone and continues implementing policies with diligence. Several initiatives in education, health, infrastructure, and employment have already started showing positive outcomes, giving the people reason to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
