Balochistan govt, Pakistan Army launch joint development programme

QUETTA(National times)- The Government of Balochistan, in collaboration with the civil administration, the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps Balochistan, has formally launched a development programme across the province. Under the Balochistan Special Development Initiative (BSDI), work on development projects is progressing at an accelerated pace. Through district-level committees, delayed projects are being identified, prioritised and approved in line with local needs to ensure timely execution and improved public service delivery. Officials said that a total of 969 development projects across 35 districts of Balochistan have been included under the BSDI framework. In districts falling under FC Balochistan (North), development schemes worth Rs 8.705 billion are currently under various stages of implementation. According to official data, 44 projects have been completed, work orders for 75 projects have been issued, while 90 projects are advancing rapidly towards completion in different districts of FC Balochistan (North). These projects span key sectors including infrastructure, basic services, and community development. The Chief Minister of Balochistan and the Commander Quetta Corps have stated that all projects under both phases of the initiative will be completed by May 30, 2026. Authorities said that the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) is closely monitoring progress to ensure transparency, quality standards and adherence to timelines. Local residents have expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work under the BSDI projects, terming the initiative a positive step towards addressing long-standing development gaps. They noted that the coordinated efforts of the civil administration, the Pakistan Army and FC Balochistan have given new momentum to the development process and improved public confidence in state institutions.
