Punjab beautification plan phase 1 deadline announced

LAHORE(National Times)- Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set a target to complete the first phase of the Punajb beautification plan from February to May 2026. In a special meeting chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz, detailed briefings on the beautification projects of every district, tehsil, and city were presented. The plan aims to complete 132 beautification schemes across Punjab’s 39 districts, with a total estimated cost of PKR 16.9 billion. Out of these, 97 projects already have work orders issued, and 88 schemes have commenced. Key urban centers will see extensive improvements: Lahore 18 projects, Rawalpindi 17, Faisalabad 13, Multan 8, Sahiwal 24, Bahawalpur 16, Gujranwala 12, and Sargodha 6. CM Maryam Nawaz directed that the projects include restoration of historical gates, installation of fiberglass and tensile structures, creation of water features, fountains, artificial waterfalls, and green belts in city roads. Pavements will be upgraded with vibrant tiles replacing old grey ones, while commercial markets will receive aesthetic enhancements. A dedicated dashboard will be established to monitor weekly progress, and all Assistant Commissioners will be held accountable for implementation. Strict action will be taken against open manholes, broken roads, garbage piles, damaged green belts, and faded paint. Specific targets include completing six projects in Rahim Yar Khan by March 31, restoring Baba Farid Gate and Al-Sadiq Mosque in Bahawalpur, upgrading Faisalabad’s 121-year-old Clock Tower, and transforming markets in Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Rawalpindi by May 31. CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the goal is to beautify entire cities, towns, and districts end-to-end, ensuring a clean, attractive environment for citizens while minimizing inconvenience during project execution.
