PM Shehbaz directs timely completion of development projects

ISLAMABAD(National times)- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed that the transparent and timely completion of projects of national importance remains a top priority of the government. He expressed these views while chairing a meeting at the Prime Minister’s House on Monday to review the action plan for timely completion of development projects across the country. The prime minister directed the concerned ministries and departments to develop a comprehensive reform strategy covering all stages of development projects. He announced that he will personally chair the steering committee comprising federal and provincial stakeholders to oversee reforms in the development project cycle. He expressed gratitude to Pakistan’s development partners, including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, for their continued support in improving project governance and implementation.

During the meeting, representatives of the World Bank and Asian Development Bank presented detailed proposals to facilitate the timely completion of development projects. The meeting also proposed the formation of four working groups regarding reforms that will work in the domains of approval stages and preparation, development of procurement on modern and transparent lines, bringing reforms in land acquisition and resettlement issues for projects, while the fourth working group will work on reforms regarding human resources and staff deployment for development projects.
