Interior ministry sacks 13 officials over Greece boat tragedy negligence

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Federal Ministry of Interior on Monday dismissed 13 officers over negligence and corruption, including their role in the Greece boat tragedy, while rejecting their appeals against the penalties. The Federal Secretary of Interior has terminated several officers for negligence, corruption, and unprofessional conduct linked to the 2023 Greece boat incident. A Deputy Director and two Assistant Directors from Karachi Airport have been dismissed. An Assistant Director at Faisalabad Airport was also dismissed after charges of negligence in the 2023 Greece boat tragedy were proven. A Deputy Director posted at Multan Airport has been demoted in rank and salary for three years over alleged links with human smugglers. Two senior investigators were dismissed for poor investigation, while an Assistant Database Administrator was terminated for negligence and carelessness. Four Assistant Directors and one Inspector faced a reduction of their basic salary for one to three years due to absenteeism, negligence, and weak investigation. At Islamabad Airport, an Assistant Director and an Inspector were given censure for mishandling a detainee. Appeals of six sub-inspectors, one ASI, three head constables, and five constables were rejected, upholding their dismissal from service. Additionally, the dismissal of an LDC for absenteeism was upheld, while penalties for a Superintendent and a Sub-Inspector were eased from promotion stoppage to censure.
